The scouts were in the tavern, and the whole building was cheerful and up beat, except for them. They were sullen and quiet, sipping at their ale slowly and with little happiness.

Caeriadne had entered the tavern with all the appropriateness of a lioness in a children's orphanage. She had no patience today when there was such a risk looming over her and her people, and was in no state of mind to fritter her time away weaving through the merry-making crowd to find her subordinates and politely buy them a round of drinks. Of course, they had been sent with the utmost of secrecy...but now that they had returned safely and time was of the essence, subterfuge was the least of her concerns. As the tavern door swung shut hard behind her, she spotted the men and swept across the room, barely giving the townsfolk time to part the way for her.

She pulled up a chair before she had said a word and positioned herself before the table of sellswords, leaning in and eyeing them intently.

"You must be my scouts, yes?" She laced her hands and laid them upon the table matter-of-factly. "Please give me your full report. Leave nothing out."

One of the men looks at her and says in a gruff northern accent “Queen Caeriadne I presume...You sent us out on a simple scouting mission, but thats not what we got. I assume Lancaster already told you about our stolen journal, where the specifics of what we found were written. From what we saw he destroyed those villages out of anger towards some slight, some disrespect that he felt he was given.”

He sighed and straightened slightly “We also heard from some traveling caravans that the Dwarven Hold of BlazeHill is down to it's last bastion, it's capital stronghold holding against legions of orks, orges and trolls, not sure what's leading them at this point as apparently they have been getting more organized.”

The he looked like he was remembering something horrible “Then...then we got all the way back to the first village he destroyed. Something evil is following behind him, something us taking advantage of all the destruction. There were corpses....being harvested by creatures made of red vines. They seemed to be piling them up and dragging them back north. But they didn't seem to be too interested in going too close to man causing all the chaos, so I don't thin they were with him.”

"BlazeHill is a rather ancient hold, for years they had been under attack by roving hordes of ogres, orks, and trolls, sometimes even hill giants. Recently, most of their military left to form another hold very far to the east, and a huge portion of BlazeHill's holding were destroyed and occupied by the hordes. At the moment rumors say they are only about three hundred dwarves left in that army, fighting thousands upon thousands of enemies. It's a war zone up there, the landscape has been ravaged, even if they win people don't suspect the hold will ever recover fully from this...and with those vines...I havent seen anything like them before. They reminded me of Blights, plant monsters, but they aren't red. Green or brown but never red. I also have no idea why they'd be doing anything with bodies.."

Caeriadne nodded intently, hoping they might have added more. Something dark and malevolent was approaching, something more wicked than she had speculated before. It was unfortunate these scouts had little information to offer but what she already knew was more than enough to justify her next plan of action.

"Thank you for your services, if you have not already collected your payment in full, then you can do so at the town hall tomorrow morning before you take your leave. I know you are not from Brighton, and will likely return to your homes when you leave here." Her voice rose slightly. "You were under a vow of silence as to who you are working for, but I am officially severing you from that burden. In fact, I would like you to spread the word. Tell your cities of what you have seen - of the destruction wrought upon the people from the misguided ones of dragonkind, and of the unknown red horrors that have followed in their stead. Tell them of the atrocities you have seen and the bodies rising up from the ground, and tell them that a dark new age is upon us all, sweeping down from the cold north across all of Arlia." She paused, gazing ominously at each scout in turn and letting a jagged, uneasy silence fall as most of the tavern had hushed to listen to the dragoness' sharp and chilling words. She paced across the table once, saying for all to hear as she left towards the door, "And tell them Caeriadne goes to face it."

With that, she crossed to the door and left the tavern in its uneasy quiet.

The scouts were surprised and nodded to each other and to her, they would do as commanded by her, they would spread the word about the horrors they had witnessed, the evil dragon spreading death in his wake, and the glorious queen that would stand up against it all, for the little people of the world.

"Quite the speech my dear." Raziel said with a smile as he leaned against the outside wall of the tavern

She continued walking, as if she was expecting to be accosted by Raziel on the way out.

"Come with me. There's been a change of plans." She was walking abruptly towards the town hall as she spoke. "I'm going north, to Blazehill. And along the way, if I can move faster than Darilith, I'm going to try and scout some of this destruction for myself, and these 'red vines' that are taking hold. It all has to be related somehow."

Raziel fell into a walk next to her without hesitation as she passed him, like he knew exactly what she would do. "Sounds all well and good. What do you need me to do? I can try and use scrying to figure out more of these red vines."

"I need you to stay here. Scry if you can, but don't make yourself any easier to find. If Darilith is looking for you, then why not others?" She made her way to the hall quickly. The afternoon sun gleamed over the little city and caught with crystalline glitters in the sapphire tree in the courtyard, glowing even more vibrantly as she passed. Once inside, she crossed to a desk, drew a quill and parchment, and wrote the following address:

"To all members of my Council,

I have come to conclude, given more information from our sources, that Darilith's coming is indeed no coincidence. He draws closer upon Brighton with a very specific intent that I fear may bring him into contact with us under the most dreadful terms. He may pass us, but now I doubt it. Tonight I fly north to play my part in our preparations. I shall be back by dusk three days from now. My instructions for you during my absence are as follows.

To Silus, Darold Lancaster, Arrak and Groo: You are to dedicate yourself entirely and wholeheartedly to the defense of Raziel. I cannot say why, but he plays a role in this that cannot yet be comprehended or expressed. Trust me when I say that you must guard him from any harm, physical, magical, or otherwise. If he must flee in my absence, utilize any and all resources to see that he is escorted as swiftly and safely as you may allow. If this becomes the case, I authorize Silus to accompany him at all lengths with any soldiers and supplies of his choosing. Raziel, you may make use of my lair for safety while I am away. Tir ti jekip mrith sia youwei."

To Huo Lang, Korrok, Dylan and a priest of his choosing, and Mary Sithia: Make your way with haste to the nearby Tiefling enclave. Tell them that you come as ambassadors of goodwill, bearing the acceptance of Ashian, with all the hospitality of a welcoming city and offers to discuss an open alliance between our Council and their faction. Impress upon them that they would be amongst others who, like them, have faced rejection from a hateful society which is intolerant to differences in color and creed, and have formed together under the hand of a new dominion which holds issue with such inequality and seeks to band people from all walks of life towards the common cause of a better future for all who shall seek it. Tell them also of the threats looming in the distance and counsel them that they may see unwanted warfare and bloodshed in the days to come, and we will hold true to our offer of a safe haven to them, even should that come to pass.

To Verior: Do not cease your studies in the days that I am gone. Focus every bit of your attention instead on the study of the Blights. I expect a fully researched report as soon as I return.

Concerning all guards, watchmen, and patrols: focus your attention towards the north."

Raziel nodded when she went inside and smiled softly with a chuckle, his eyes glazed for quick moment so he could see something, somewhere. With that he walked inside after her, but turned upstairs to one of the rooms she let him stay in. Before she left, she could hear him, though he wasn't nearby. "Be careful, my lonely sapphire." He said, in a tone rarely heard from him, and also confirming the sapphire from the vision was her.

The rest of the council would read that when they arrived next, and would go about doing their business as ordered. Huo Long prepared for the long journey to the Enclave, with his companions.

Caeriadne had left shortly after posting that notice in the meeting hall. She had made a quick sweep of her lair, checking that all of her equipment was in order in the chance that she may have to shift back into her human form - but she doubted it. Nevertheless, she had donned her armor and blade, with every inch of metal polished and every buckle and strap perfectly in place.

She left before the afternoon sun had a chance to get far on its descent towards the horizon. If she had a favorable wind, she may even make it to the Hill before nightfall. She left the hall and, without offering any further explanation to anyone, began to shift and change right in the courtyard before the eyes of the villagers. She had spent almost all of her time in Brighton in her human form, and was not surprised as the spectacle of her transformation shocked the unsuspecting spectators. The sapphire light reflected brilliantly as she flared her wings, struck them hard into the air, and took off into the sky.

She veered her massive body as she loomed out and over the city beneath her, and turned her great serpentine head. A low, rumbling growl issued forth, sounding like some distant thunder reassuring a storm coming soon. And with that, she turned to the north and struck out as fast as the skies might allow.

She would fly with amazing speed across the sky, zooming past caravans and a few small villages as the day ebbed by. Her great wings would slice clouds and the sound of her flight was like a thunder storm rolling in from the distance, all who saw her coming were struck with awe. She would reach the outskirts of the Hold within hours.

The sight was...solemn to say the least. Villages and farmland burning and destroyed fouled by blood and death as far as she could see. In the distance, she could see a mountain on the horizon, that must be the lone mountain that the dwarves here call their capital.

She wasted no time in gliding closer to the hill in the distance, first making a pass high in the sky to take in all that she could see before committing to her next strategy.

The day was now beginning to fade and, as she approached, she used the cover of clouds to stay mostly obscured from anything that was not watching the skies. She needed to plan this carefully if she hoped for success...that is, if there was even a chance left at all.

There was a chance, though it hung on by a thread. The dwarven forces were pushed all the way back up to the summit keep of the mountain city. The high ground for spell casters and archers was the only thing keeping the hordes of enemies at bay at this point.

Re: ((Caeriadne)) Ripples in the Night Sky

Caeriadne surveyed the battlefield for a few minutes before she struck. She saw that the attacking forces were mostly disorganized, lacked any type of strategic cohesion, and at the very best were utterly decentralized from any sort of tactic other than a blind assault upon the keep.

With the intense force of a comet, Caeriadne dove from the skies above through the war-streaked landscape and shot across the front lines of the attacking force, mere feet overhead. She let out a tremendous wailing roar, deep and guttural but with overtones so bright that she could have been a great winged banshee dropping from the sky. As the wind from off her body gushed around the already-disorganized vanguard, the sapphire dragoness broke into the second line, already veering back up at an angle, and hooked her back legs like talons directly into the torso of a hill giant. She felt her claws rend and sink into the flesh, crunched down upon her unsuspecting victim for a fraction of a second as she jolted back up, and then released him at a great speed to go hurtling headlong into the hordes behind him.

With that, she spiraled up into the sky and came down for another swoop over the attackers, and a great roar was heard again as she craned her jaws back and spit forth a torrent of shimmering light that seemed as if it could be made of thousands of phantasmal sapphire spears.

She tore through the enemy lines like they were nothing, they had obviously not been expecting an attack from above, especially not one from a dragon. Not only did her attacks rip apart whatever rudimentary battle 'lines' they had, the fear of a dragon swooping down and tearing them apart was enough to even break a Hill Giants Morale. They started to retreat slowly though they seemed to be attempting to fight her off as they ran.

The dwarves were terrified at first, but seeing that this dragon was on their side emboldened them, and with a great war cry from their king they formed a large wall phalanx and began to slowly push forward on their enemies.

Just then, from the bottom of the mountain, Caeriadne heard a great bellowing roar...

Upon hearing the roar the hordes of monster reformed into their basic swarm and held fast against Caeriadne and the advancing dwarves.

From the bottom of the mountain a large, much larger than her, red dragon emerged. It roared loud and looked her in the eyes "Pathetic little Gem dragon! Leave this place at once, and I will allow you to live! My name is Tchazzar, the Great and Terrible!" She could tell this red was younger than her, but being a red, it was already rather large and powerful.

"Tchazzar, wux ehaism Caeriadne," she kept her voice low and rumbling despite its patience, without any of the excitability of the younger dragon. "Is it you that leads these legions of orcs and giants?"

"Adamantine and Cobalt?" She knew that, if she wanted any information of use, she would have to lead this Red into it as if it were his own idea. She disliked dealing with the chromatics, but perhaps this one might be useful before she had to rend it to pieces or scare it off. She tried to redirect it quickly, like an adult might with a small, stupid child.

"Why do you feud with the Metallics, when the great Blue, Darilith, is sweeping down from the north this very moment?"

"I still need a lair, Sapphire Dragon, and this mountain it as good as any." He growled but then stopped and grinded his teeth slightly before saying "Fine, I will conquer elsewhere...HORDES! LEAVE THIS WORTHLESS PLACE, WE'VE KILLED ENOUGH OF THEM, THEY'LL NEVER FORGET THIS."

The stupid hordes cheered and yelled in victory as they walked away, the red shook his head "Idiots..."
