The time has come, the city is as prepared as it can be, and Raziel has not yet returned. There were storm clouds on the horizon that crackled with blue lightning, signalling the approach of the ancient blue dragon. Now was the time to confront him, and hopefully have a less than violent meeting with him. The tieflings were ready to help if they needed, and Silus was doing better but not enough to help. The fate of Brighton and all those she had taken in, the Kobolds, the dwarves, these tieflings...were all on her shoulders.

Caeriadne went out of the city to go find Darilith and hoped that she would be able to talk their way out of a violent confrontation.

Outside of Brighton, not a grand distance away, she would meet him. He was in his human form, so he was no immediately too impressive or intimidating, but when she looked into his eyes when he met her gaze, she could feel power. Incredible power radiating off of him, she would be assured that he could probably kill lesser dragons in this human form with little issue.

In his human form he wore the garb of a monk, loose fitting robes that only covered half of his upper torso, with a long sleeve dangling to the side of where his arm would be. But his human form mirrored his crippled true form, he was missing an arm, as he was missing most of a wing. He was of a tanned complexion and was rather muscular, though it was mostly just toned, not massive bulging muscles. In his good hand he was holding a staff of black and blue metal, should could sense a very powerful enchantment about it, but she couldn't tell what it was.

Possibly the most striking part of him was his eyes though. One of them had a rather significant scar running across it, and looked as if he should be blind there, but his eye wasn't cloudy or grey. They were blue, violently so, like lightning in a storm flickering and flashing with brightness and fury. His eyes betrayed his brutal nature, the brutality of the storms and weather.

When he spoke he had a deep voice, regal almost, but full of hatred and anger, but as she was a very attentive dragon she could sense the tinge of depression and regret. He sniffed the air before speaking though, and a small smirk appeared on his face "A sapphire dragon...I had not sense your kind for centuries before we were stolen from the world. Refreshing to see something new...Who are you? Where do you make your Lair?" He demanded, with little room for negotiation she may assume

Caeriadne wore a robe of fine ebony and sapphire silks which draped down to the ground as she swept across the plains outside of Brighton to meet Darilith. A white-gold sash secured the sheathed elven blade at her side, and a line of slender, modest gems adorned a latticed white choker. Her hair was smoothed back like ravens' feathers, then twisted into a round bun with loose tendrils that wisped down to her shoulders. She had no difficulty in meeting Darilith's gaze and holding it, her head held high and her expression diplomatic and hospitable, without any air of presumption. Her eyes glittered blue sapphire, bright sky teal, and the deep royal hues of a moonlit midnight, all layered upon each other and sparkling with deep intent. She seemed fearless, noble, focused.

"I am Caeriadne of Sapphire," she answered simply with a small bow and polite cant of the head. It seemed almost unnatural not to speak Draconic upon introducing herself to one of her own kind, but she respected his choice to use Common. "I make my lair in and underneath the humble village Brighton that you see before you. It is my pleasure to welcome you."

"Hmph....I am assuming this..." He looked at Brighton and scoffed slightly " 'village' is your domain, Caeriadne of Sapphire? You are lucky, you are quite a bit north of what my borders will be. Also I must commend you, the last village I visited was ruled over by a particularly annoying Emerald. I turned him to ash and soot and laid his land to waste. To be honest it is..nice, to see someone who gives me the proper respect an ancient dragon such as myself deserves."

He sniffs the air and then chuckles again slightly "Your hoard is Dendritic, is it not?"

She bowed her head again, long and low but without any expression that would belie fear. "Yes. It is nothing to behold as of yet, merely my starting point." She smiled, letting a hint of humorous malice creep into her voice. "Yes, emeralds can be particularly bothersome, can't they? I have no love for the beasts, and one less is good news to me. And indeed, many of the young ones do not afford their elders enough respect. I pride myself on not making such a mistake."

"Indeed. A meager supply, so far, but I'm collecting." She was careful not to hesitate or seem surreptitious.

He nodded "I can tell...it isn't a large hoard by any means. But this town has a large deposit of it underneath perhaps one day you'll have a good sized hoard..." He chuckled, he was apparently trying to joke. "Now Caeriadne of Sapphire, you seem to be a dragon of some respect. I assume you will be more than willing to allow me to stay in this town tonight? I may even tell you of my plans, I'm sure that would ease your mind..." He smirked, he obviously knew she was worried about him, of course she should be, he was powerful and he knew he was powerful and he would hold it over the entire world if he could.

"Not just willing, my friend, but I would be pleased to. In fact, we heard of your coming and have an open room prepared for you in the city hall. It is modest and not at all befitting someone of your caliber, but I'm afraid it's the most we can offer." Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer, Caeriadne thought to herself without betraying a bit of suspicion. She could tell that he already knew, and at least he was being reasonable. She chose not to mention the reference to more dendritic, for now - she would have to stay focused and keep her indulgences in check. "If you wish to share your plans, I would be a most rapt audience. Otherwise, your business is yours and yours alone." She smiled politely, even pleasantly, as she continued, "but first - dinner. You must be famished from your travels. I had one of our prize cattle butchered just this morning, and as I speak, it is being prepared. Well-done but not crispy, I presume?"

He chuckled and nodded slightly "That does sound rather appetizing, it's been a while since I've indulged in well made food. It would be a pleasure to join you for dinner." He said, just making sure she knew she had to be there. It slowly became clear he had some kind of motive, he had a reason for being so polite and undemanding, besides his old fashioned traditional tendencies.

Caeriadne had expected as much; there were three possibilities in her mind: Darilith would pass over the city if he didn't want to bother, he would plow his way through if they were an inconvenience to him, or he would treat with them if there was something he wanted. She just hoped that whatever it was would keep her fledgling little village and its people intact.

"Follow me. It should be ready quite soon." She turned, her gown flowing in the grass behind her, as she made her way towards the town hall. Brighton was unusually quiet, with most of the people taking preliminary refuge in their homes. Caeriadne had not issued any orders for this, of course, but it went unspoken that it was much safer to be under cover until noted otherwise. The town guard was out and about with a bit more presence than usual, but they were under specific orders not to stalk Darilith or make him uncomfortable - merely to keep a reasonable eye on the situation. She walked through the town at a comfortable pace, making her way to the city hall.

He laughed as he walked through "It seems your people are afraid of me, perhaps there is some worth in this little town, they seem intelligent enough. Also your guard surprises me, in my day I've seen well trained city guards, and some small town boys with spears who call themselves guards. You seem to have picked this place up from having the latter of those two I assume? Perhaps the dragon-born I keep smelling helped you along that way."

"Indeed," she said, letting a hint of pride color her words. "I started a new training regime to help shape them up. We've got a long way to go. They don't know yet that what they think has been hell so far is just the warm-up for their real training. I do take some pride in keeping my followers in their peak condition, as you've guessed. In fact, I'm quite excited, as we've recently had a few dwarves, tieflings, and even giants join our forces...but their training has scarcely been planned yet. And indeed, the dragon-blooded was quite a surprise to me when I came here, but he has been most instrumental in helping me arrange things. The poor fellow was scoffed and shunned for his noble blood by most of the folk around here. Now that they are more...well-informed, he has been quite comfortable and talented at my side in command."

She waved a guard ahead to open the doors of the city hall. Normally, she wouldn't bother with such a formality, but it seemed appropriate just then. She respectfully gestured for Darilith to go ahead of her, as her guest.

"Humans, Dwarves, Tieflings, Giants, and Gnolls. To make all these races come together in one place and manage to make sure they don't tear each other apart. That is something to be proud of, even from me. Also, what kind of Dragon Blood is he? I remember fathering a few lines of Blue Dragon Blooded in my time, is he one of mine?" Though his tone didn't change much, she could tell it was a joke. And with the Gnolls, he probably just managed to smell them.

Darilith entered in front of her and looked around "This truly was a rather unimpressive settlement until you arrived Caeriadne of Sapphire. I'm a bit surprised a dragon of your apparent caliber even stayed." It was beginning to become clear he was tiring of small talk, he had something else on his mind, something that seemed more important. Normally no one would have been able to tell, but seeing as Caeriadne is such a shrewd diplomat, it was apparent, if not totally obvious.

"Indeed," she offered tentatively, "I've tired of trying to cooperate with humans alone. Any true prosperity requires collaboration, so to thrive, the mortal races need diversity among themselves." She chuckled lightly at his comment about Silus, but did not give a definitive answer. "Perhaps I'll have to introduce the two of you, for dear Silus is rather fond of our kind. He practically fell to worship when he knew that we had returned."

"I thank you for your compliment, but it is still rather unimpressive - and although I intend to change that with time, I must say that I'm equally surprised that you have chosen to pass through here on your journey." She comfortably matched his elevated purpose for moving past the small talk with her own perfectly balanced retort. Obviously, she was just as eager to get to the root of this situation, but she approached with the utmost grace. She offered him a meaningful look as she stepped in and the door closed behind her, keeping them from curious ears. It appeared that she had cleared the hall of its usual bureaucratic riff-raff and passersby, and she gestured to Darilith for him to proceed.

He nodded but then turned and suddenly even just looked more...official. The way he held himself was regal, but beyond a king. Someone who wasn't born into power but someone who takes it, a conqueror, a general. "My passing through is not entirely coincidental or just because my journey brought me close. I am going south, so the large Ork kingdom and I will topple it's war chief, and take control. You are close to where those borders will be. This town would have been on the block, had I not realized a dragon controlled it. We have...a few options open to us here Caeriadne of Sapphire."

"Well, one option would be you bend the knee and pledge, but you're a sapphire. Too proud for all that. Another is I crush you and take the land for my own but I really don't want that, it would be a waste of such talent. I feel I have a middle ground. Become a Vassal to me, until you have a respectably sized domain, at which time you will be freed from my service and we can draft a true alliance. Those are the options I see."

"Or disregard the formalities and form a true alliance now," she stated. "I will not disappoint you, Darilith. You see my potential just as well as I see your power. Why stunt our mutual growth?" She made a graceful, sweeping gesture as she leaned in closer to him, locking her glinting sapphire eyes onto his with an admirable intensity.

He smirked and laughed for a moment "Most blues would kill you where you stand. But I like you Caeriadne, I find you interesting. Fine, I agree to an alliance. When I claim dominion of those mindless orks to the south I will have countless armies and resources, what will you have to offer me?"

"You see quite well how resourceful I've been in the little time we've had," she said, letting a graceful sweep of her arm mark the sentiment. "Such assets grow exponentially. By the time you conquer the orcs, this little seed that I have planted will be primed to blossom as well. We will see how well our resources align then."

He smirked and he nodded with an appraising look, still optimistic yet unsure of his new 'friend'. "I suppose yes, I am willing to wait and see what this has turned into then...By the way, I heard a rumor that you came into contact with a certain Red named Tchazzar, is this correct?"

"It is, indeed," she said confidently. However, she knew well enough not to brag of any 'victory' over the dragon, particularly when she wasn't sure of Darilith's specific outlook on Tchazzar. "A neighbor of ours, I suppose. Quite an appropriate representation of his breed," she added pointedly. "He was not all too averse to civil negotiations, however he did lead me to believe that I should not expect such courtesy in the future, lest I ruffle his feathers any further." A friendly smile completed the statement, leaving Darilith exactly no more information than he had before asking.

Caeriadne had to play her reaction carefully. She had thought about what she might do if this subject came up. To play the fool would put her too much in a position of vulnerability...yet if she made it clear that she knew, Darilith would question the source of her knowledge. And that could be very, very problematic for her, and for Raziel. Her reaction was smooth, calm, and natural.

"So, are the rumors true, then? Tiamat really is dead. I hesitated to believe." She shook her head in feigned disbelief. "Tchazzar and his lot are not designed to succeed in this new world of ours. I believe the world's fate has changed, and we must evolve with it."

Darilith laughed and smiled, he tried to stop, then laughed more "I know, my dear Sapphire friend. I know all about Raziel, and his Lapis friends. I watched them kill Tiamat from the shadows. I could have helped but...I didn't feel like getting involved. You don't need to play coy with me, you are harboring quite the powerful being..."
